Ventura Salimbeni (Siena, 1568-1613) - Family Scene from the Sacred Holy Family of Saint Elizabeth and Saint John the Baptist Oil painting on canvas with non-contemporary antique frame Expertise: Prof. Marco Ciampolini Canvas size: 58.5x72.5cm This painting was made by Salimbeni Ventura as a small presentation to the client of the large canvas then understood that it is currently in the Palatina Gallery in Florence at Palazzo Pitti. Painter among the last representatives of the Sienese Mannerist school, he trained at his father's studio in Siena and then moved to Rome in 1588, where he worked for clients such as Pope Sixtus V and Cardinal Aldobrandini in the Vatican Library and the Church of Gesù. Returning to Siena in 1595, he worked on numerous pictorial cycles, notably the scenes from the life of San Giacinto in Santo Spirito (1600). His fame, however, earned him commissions in many Tuscan centers for the fresco decoration of churches, among which the paintings of San Lorenzo in San Pietro in Montalcino stand out for the richness of the colors and the majesty of the scenographic installation, of Baroque origin.
